Last Wednesday students from the MetWest addition of Street Style modeled informative military garments to expose the dangers and reality of military recruitment for high school students in Oakland. We even saw Tassafaronga Dream Seams Youth Designer Cara He in the audience.
Below models: Celina, Berenice, Olivia (organizer) and Yadira were assisted by Marisel (not pictured) in modeling garments created by the Women of Color Resource Center (as well as one garment created by facilitator Kristi Holohan).
The event in the words of Celina:
"For it being short notice, I thought we pulled it off. We did not know what we were modeling, what song we were modeling to, who was doing hair and make-up and where we were walking. Luckily the other models were talented and helped one another with make-up. When it was time to get up on that stage, we WORKED IT! It went very well and the croud went wild! It seemed like they enjoyed the performance. It was great to be able to help out one of our peers by participating in this event. It was also great to be a part of this event because the issue they were addressing is an important issue."
